A LITTLE PEEK AT A NEW PROJECT

This is just a little peek at something I am working on. Usually I never give advance photos because I may change my mind between now and completion and go into an entirely different direction. But I’m excited about this next fashion idea and thought it wouldn't hurt to post a quick pic. If you are following (and many are) the time-travel, historical, romantic, television series,  “Outlander” (based on the books written by Diana Gabaldon) then you know the huge popularity of the artisanal chunky knit cowls worn by the heroine, Claire Randal (played beautifully by Catriona Balfe). (See http://www.showcase.ca/outlander if you want more info.)

Over the Christmas break, not wanting to miss a single minute with my family by closeting myself in my sewing room, I decided to pick up my knitting needles and try my hand at cowls for our dolls. I choose Tonner’s Cami for my first model. I think she has that special “Claire” essence, but I intend not to neglect our 12” girls as well. The challenge will be to design outfits to go with them that reflect the rugged Scottish era in which the film is set, and yet will be modern enough for the 2015 world.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

“Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time.”

- Laura Ingalls Wilder

Merry Christmas!

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you in the new year!

I LOVE NOSEY and HAPPY DAYS for Tiny Betsy and Friends on Etsy

While there are several 8" dolls on the market today, the charm of Tonner's Tiny Betsy McCall has always beckoned me. She is so nostalgic, taking me back to childhood and to the days of eagerly awaiting the arrival of my mother’s issue of McCall’s magazine. Those Betsy paper doll cut-outs were irresistible and may very well be the reason for my love of magazines to this day.

Two months ago I became a first time grandmother to a beautiful little girl, Florence Grace, and I am looking forward to the day when I can present her with her own Tiny Betsy McCall doll - complete with  OOAK outfits, of course J

AUTUMN IN CHELSEY for Cami, Antoinette and similar dolls on Etsy

I really enjoy sewing for my favourite 16” Tonner girls – Cami and Antoinette. They may share the same body sculpt but, by no means, the same personality. I love their versatility and they seem to be my go-to-models when I feel like creating something with a modern flair, be it street fashion or something a bit more elegant. I do realize that there are quite a few 16” fashion dolls on the market, so in my Etsy listing I have included a Tonner measurement guide so you can compare if you own another type of doll.

TRUFFLES for Silkstone Barbie and Similar Dolls on Ebay

I have always been in love with the picture hats that were so popular in the '40's and the '50's. They were usually unadorned except for a band and sometimes a bow or a flower. So elegant and sophisticated, whether on the streets of Manhattan or strolling the shores of Palm Beach. Inspired by some of the photos I found on the Internet I created "Truffles" in homage to these hats. "Truffles" is now on Ebay.
